A Harlingen man is behind bars after he was involved into two auto accidents while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Harlingen police arrested 24-year-old Eleazar Garcia on DWI and accident involving injury charges early Sunday morning.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Garcia was intoxicated when he caused two accidents, including one where three boys were rushed to the hospital.

Police said Garcia was driving a silver 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier when he hit a tan 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with five people aboard off North 1st Street and East Austin Avenue.

Garcia fled the scene but paramedics responded and took three boys ages 6 to 10 years old from inside the truck to the hospital.

A few minutes later, Garcia was involved in a rollover accident on the 1500 block of New Combes Highway.

Investigators said Garcia was headed north but lost control of his car when he swerved to avoid hitting another car heading south.

Officers at the scene reported that Garcia appeared to be drunk, performed poorly on a field sobriety test and was taken to the hospital for a mandatory blood draw.

Garcia remains in custody under $39,000 dollars in bonds.
