A Houston State Representative has proposed a new bill that could allow the liquor stores to be open on Sundays in Texas.

State Representative Senfronia Thompson recently proposed House Bill 421 to approve the alcohol sales.

There are 36 states that currently allow the sale of liquor on Sundays.

Alcohol is already sold in restaurants and grocery stores on Sunday.

There are arguments that adding the extra day for the sale of liquor could allow the cities to benefit more from the alcohol sales.

Current law in place:

Sec. 105.02.  HOURS OF SALE:  WHOLESALERS AND LOCAL DISTRIBUTORS TO RETAILERS.

(a)  A holder of a wholesaler's permit may sell, offer for sale, or deliver liquor to a retailer anytime except [Sunday and] Christmas Day.
(b)  A local distributor's permittee may sell, offer for sale, or deliver liquor to a retailer between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m.
