WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama is reviving his stalled proposals for overhauling the nation's immigration laws, calling for a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants, improvements to the legal immigration system and more effective mechanisms for helping employers verify the status of workers.

The president will launch his immigration push in Las Vegas, a day after a bipartisan group of senators unveiled a similar plan for addressing an issue that has languished in Washington for years.

Administration officials said Obama would largely endorse the senators' efforts.

The simultaneous immigration campaigns were spurred by the November presidential election. Obama won an overwhelming majority of Hispanic voters.

The election results caused Republican lawmakers who had previously opposed immigration reform to reconsider in order to rebuild the party's reputation among Hispanics.
