McAllen's first mobile food cart waiting for "green light"

The City of McAllen is close to having its first permit issued for a restaurant on wheels.

Chuyito's plans to open this weekend along the 5000 block of North 23rd Street.

The mobile vendor is still pending fire marshal approval.

Once that happens, health director Josh Ramirez says the vendor plans to open up after normal business hours to test the market.

The city plans to issue a dozen permits during a trial period to see how the system works with regards to public health.

Chuyito's said they plan to sell different of varities of tacos from their mobile food cart.

McAllen city officials are only issuing 12 permits for mobile food vendors.

The food carts are popular in the entertainment districts of Austin and other cities.
