A new store is creating a lot of excitement in Pharr.

Construction crews are busy building the Rio Grande Valley’s newest HEB Plus! store at the corner of South Cage Boulevard and Ridge Road.

The project is expected to be completed by the Fall but crews are working at a quick pace.

There are at least 24 HEB Plus! stores across the Lone Star State.

Of those stores, three of them can be found in the Valley: San Juan, Mission and Rio Grande City.

HEB Plus! stores include groceries, electronics, books, nursery, furniture, upscale delicatessen and food court.

All of the existing HEB Plus! stores in the Valley are located along Expressway 83.

The Pharr location would be the first HEB Plus! located off the expressway

City officials said the new store makes sense given the city’s growth in the 2010 Census to more than 70,400 residents becoming the Valley’s fifth largest city.

Spokesman Gary Rodriguez said Pharr is ideal because of its location at the intersection of two major highways and its proximity to Reynosa.

“H-E-B has been a great community partner with the City of Pharr and we’re excited they decided to expand their franchise here,” Rodriguez said. “We look forward to increasing the visibility of H-E-B within our community and seeing our friends and family enjoy an increased partnership with H-E-B.”
