Victoria joins the Action 4 Weather team after spending four years in her hometown of Laredo at KGNS-TV.
Victoria became fascinated by weather at an early age. She regularly kept close tabs on the mercury as it rose during the summers in the “desert” climate of Laredo, waiting for that first 100 degree day, and also loved tracking the tropics on her hurricane chart.
Her passion for weather followed her throughout her years in high school, although, she never imagined pursuing it as a career until college.
A cum laude graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word, Victoria earned a B.S. in Meteorology.
As one of the two first Meteorology graduates, she became actively involved in helping grow the program.
She was a founding member of the UIW American Meteorological Society/National Weather Association student chapter, and served as the president for 2 years.
During her years at UIW, Victoria had the chance to intern at KABB Fox-29 and News-4 WOAI, both in San Antonio.
But it was internship in the summer of 2007 at NBC affiliate KGNS-TV that started her career back home in the “Gateway City”.
She quickly rose from intern to Pro 8 News weekend meteorologist, travelling home on the weekends her last semester of school to work on air.
She continued that stint until June 2008, when she helped build a newscast for sister station the CW from scratch!
The CW, First News at Nine quickly became a staple within the young demographic.
It was there that Victoria really honed her skills, not just in front of the camera, but behind the scenes.
She multi-tasked daily, serving as anchor, meteorologist, reporter, and producer for about a year before being promoted to executive producer in October 2009.
From there, it was back to the NBC affiliate in March of 2010, with a promotion to meteorologist/anchor for Pro 8 News Today, a one hour weekday morning show.
Now, she is excited to be just a hop, skip, and a jump away from home in the Rio Grande Valley covering a much different climate!
Victoria loves to volunteer her time in the community, and is also a passionate animal supporter. So she put the two together and helped found the Pawsitive Pet Pals organization.
The organization has raised thousands of dollars through various events, including their annual “Pooch Parade”, for the Laredo Animal Protective Society. She hopes to continue this endeavor for the animals of the Rio Grande Valley.
In her spare time, Victoria enjoys trying out new restaurants, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Of course, she also loves to go running with her Corgi named Baxter (yes, after Ron Burgundy’s dog!) or just relax with her two Chihuahuas Achilles and Aphrodite.
Feel contact her via e-mail or Facebook if you have any weather related questions or story ideas!
