School: University of Texas at Austin
Hometown: Brownsville, Texas

Daisy joined the Action 4 News team in August 2010, but she is no stranger to the Rio Grande Valley.

Daisy is a Brownsville native where she graduated from Simon Rivera High School in 2000 ranking in the top-five percent of her class.

Thanks to hard work and dedication throughout her years as a student in the Brownsville Independent School District, Daisy received a scholarship to attend The University of Texas at Austin.

There she earned a Bachelor’s of Journalism degree and a Bachelor’s of Liberal Arts degree with a concentration in Spanish/Hispanic Studies.

Living in Austin has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences for Daisy, but she couldn’t stay away from the Valley for too long since she has always considered it home.

She began her journalism career in newspapers working for The Island Breeze on South Padre Island and then The Valley Morning Star in Harlingen.

In 2009, Daisy made the jump to broadcast at the local NBC affiliate.

Now, as part of the KGBT family, Daisy looks forward to covering stories that matter to Valley residents.

Daisy pursued a career in journalism because she wanted to help make a difference in people’s lives whenever, and as much as possible.

She enjoys covering a wide range of topics such as Veteran’s issues, children with special needs, crime, poverty, youth issues and weather events.

Daisy believes everyone has a story to tell and welcomes story ideas.

When she is not reporting for Action 4 News, Daisy enjoys spending time with her parents, who she still calls "mami" and "papi," her little brother Arturo, her nephew Oscar and her two Chihuahuas Camila and Fifi.

Daisy is inspired by and dedicates her career to her late brother U.S. Marine Sgt. Oscar Martinez, who bravely served three tours in Iraq but unfortunately lost his battle with cancer in October 2008 at the young age of 24.

Her brother Oscar taught her about generosity, humility, courage and of course fighting for others. His memory inspires Daisy every day.

She also likes to spend time with her friends whether at the beach, a concert, movie or road trip.

Daisy loves to meet people so don’t be surprised if she greets you with a smile.

On Thanksgiving, Daisy married the love of her life Humberto Barrera.
