Journalism runs in Sergio's blood. His father Tony Chapa was a photographer and reporter for KGBT in the 1970s. Sergio grew up in Austin where he followed in his father's footsteps by majoring in journalism at the University of Texas. He worked for newspapers in the Rio Grande Valley and Dallas before switching to television with KGBT.
